Picochic ist ein minimalistisches, responsives und auf Schnelligkeit ausgelegtes WordPress-Theme. Picochic setzt auf aktuelle Technik (HTML5, CSS3), unterstützt aber auch etwas ältere Browser noch.

Picochic-Funktionen
Das Theme ist sehr gut konfigurierbar. In den Theme-Optionen gibt es verschiedene Möglichkeiten picochic nach seinen Wünschen anzupassen. Außerdem wurde ein Social-Links-Widget integriert.
Einstellungsmöglichkeiten
Im Abschnitt “Farbe und Hintergrund” lässt sich das Farbschema nach persönlichen Vorlieben verändern. Die Option “Weißer Hintergrund für Mittelteil” ist für jene Nutzer praktisch, die den Hintergrund dunkel gestalten wollten. Ist die Funktion aktiviert, bekommt der Mittelteil, also der Teil, in dem sich der Inhalt befindet, mit weißem Hintergrund hinterlegt.
Einstellungsmöglichkeiten in picochic
Im “Header”-Abschnitt ist es möglich ein eigenes Logo hochzuladen und dieses anstatt des standardmäßig angezeigten Textes mit Blogname und Beschreibung anzeigen zu lassen. Weiters ist es möglich das Suchformular im Header zu deaktivieren und das Logo zentriert anzeigen zu lassen.
Im “Andere”-Abschnitt gibt es ein paar zusätzliche Einstellungsmöglichkeiten. Sehr wichtig ist wohl die Möglichkeit für den jeweiligen Nutzer, ein persönliches Favicon hochladen zu können. Auch die Höhe des Header-Bildes kann angepasst werden. Die “Über den Autor”-Box kann ein- und ausgeschaltet werden. Zu guter letzt kann der Nutzer noch entscheiden, ob die “Weiterlesen”-Links auf der Startseite auf den Anfang des Artikels weisen sollen oder direkt zum Weiterlesen-Tag.
Social Links-Widget
Picochic bringt auch ein Social Links-Widget mit. Dieses Widget basiert auf dem Social Links-Widget vom Yoko-Theme. Da das Theme wie picochic unter GPL steht, habe ich mich (natürlich nach kurzer Nachfrage bei den Entwicklern) etwas beim Code bedient und ihn um ein paar Extras erweitert bzw. abgeändert.
Picochic sieht nicht nur auf sehr großen Bildschirmen gut aus, sondern wurde auch mit dem Ziel entwickelt, eine vollwertige mobile Oberfläche bereitzustellen. Picochic ist ein responsives “All-in-one”-Theme für alle Internet-fähigen Geräte.
Unterhalb einer gewissen Auflösung wird das traditionelle Dropdown-Menü ausgeblendet und stattdessen ein Menü-Button angezeigt. Ein Klick bzw. Fingertipp auf den Button führt dazu, dass das gesamte Menü ausgefahren wird.
Das ist vor allem auf Smartphones praktisch, da dort der verfügbare Platz sehr eingeschränkt ist. Aber der Menü-Button spart nicht nur Platz, sondern ermöglicht es Benutzern mobiler Geräte auch die Unterkategorien der Menüs zu erreichen, was ohne Maus meist schwierig ist.
Ist die Breite des Endbenutzer-Bildschirms groß genug, wird rechts neben dem Inhalt eine Sidebar mit entsprechenden Widgets angezeigt. Unterhalb einer gewissen Breite wandert die Sidebar nach unten, unter den eigentlichen Inhalt und wird dort 1-2-spaltig (je nach Bildschirmbreite) angezeigt.
WordPress-Funktionen
Picochic unterstützt Artikelbilder, eigene Hintergründe, Kopfzeilenbilder, Menüs und die “Über den Autor”-Box. Weiters werden folgende WordPress-Formatvorlagen (post formats) unterstützt:
- Standard: Ein normaler Artikel, mit normalem Titel etc.
- Link: Dabei wird der Titel der Nachricht als Link gekennzeichnet und mit dem ersten Link der Nachricht verlinkt.
- Kurzmitteilung: Für recht kurze Artikel bietet sich das Post Format “Kurzmitteilung” an. Hierbei wird kein Titel angezeigt.
- Zitat: Der Artikel wird als Zitat gekennzeichnet. Auch hierbei wird kein Titel angezeigt.

Picochic wurde mit folgenden Browsern getestet:
- Firefox (Version 3.6 und größer)
- Chrome/Chromium (Version 5 und größer)
- Safari (Version 5 und größer)
- Opera (Version 11 und größer)
- Internet Explorer (Version 8 und größer)

Kleiner Verbesserungsvorschlag: Im Footer wird noch “copyright 2011″ angezeigt. Ich bin wahrlich kein PHP-Freak, aber dafür gibts doch ne Funktion glaube ich. Ansonsten sehr ansprechend und ich werde es bald mal testen, da ich eine neue Seite in Planung habe…

I really like the picochic theme and I am considering to use it on my own website. But does this theme support child themes? As I (maybe) want to do some modifications to the appearance of the theme using a child theme is the way to go I believe. I have also created a child theme for the picochic theme, but when viewing my website in an older browser (IE 8), the website looks completely wrong.
Am I doing something wrong?

Now I cannot see any problem in the source code. The picochic theme without child theme is working properly?
Yes, without the child theme it works fine. The problem occurs when activating the child-theme.
Maybe the problem is not the child theme himself but a change you’ve done? You tested to make a child theme without other modifications?
At first I also thought it was because of a change I made in the child theme. The child which is now active is not modified in any way; only the parent’s style.css and rtl.css files are imported.
Maybe a plugin? Do you disabled all plugins?
All plugins are currently disabled, the problem still occurs.
What about the functions.php? As IE (<9) does not support @media-queries, you used some functions to make sure the lay-out is displayed correctly in older browsers. Can this be the cause of the problem?
When checking the site, it looks good in Internet Explorer 9, but not in 7 or 8.
The functions.php is working. You can see in the source code, that the javascript files are linked propery.
No plugins? What is causing this output in the html-element?

I really like the picochic theme but I’m having problems with IE 9. I have a demo site at

It looks great in Firefox and Chrome but there are a couple issues in IE.
The drop down menu is missing the background color and there are 2 scroll bars on the right hand side. I installed the theme from within wp-admin.
Any ideas?

Das Eingabefeld für die Suche wird zu klein auf einem iPhone. Klar, es sieht so eleganter aus, aber es ist auch unpraktisch. Ist es schwierig um das Feld wieder wachsen zu lassen wenn Du mit der Eingabe beginnst?
Du bindest in style.css Droid Sans ein. Ich persönlich ziehe andere Fonts vor, und es wäre prima wenn Droid Sans dann nicht überflüssiger weise auch noch geladen wird. Wäre es möglich die Vorlage zu splitten, einen Standardfont als Basis zu gebrauchen, und dann die Droid Sans Variation als sub theme bereit zu stellen?

du kannst ganz einfach ein child-Theme für das Theme erstellen. Da die Font-Datei über die style.css geladen wird, kannst du bei einem Child-Theme diesen Abschnitt einfach weglassen, bzw. dort stattdessen eine andere Schriftart einbinden.

Sorry, das was ich da geschrieben habe, stimmt natürlich nicht, da ja die originale CSS-Datei immer mitgeladen wird und damit auch die Schriftdatei. Hmm, werd ich mir bei Gelegenheit mal was überlegen.

I actually just found it in theme-options.php. I was trying to get rid of the file all together, but the page doesnt load if I do that.
Is there any good way of getting rid of theme options all together? I am working on a really simple theme with only abpit 300 lines of CSS code.

es freut mich, dass dir das Theme gefällt. Es gibt mit picoclean und picolight noch zwei weitere WordPress-Themes. Diese sind allerdings älter als picochic und weniger gut anpassbar.
Möglicherweise kommt aber in Zukunft noch was. Wenn ich wieder mal Zeit dazu habe, werde ich sicher noch was in die Richtung basteln

Hi, auch wir nutzen picochic 1.08 für unsere gemeinnütziges Projekt. Mit älteren IE gibts noch Probleme mit der Ebene 2 im Hauptmenue. Liegt vermutlich an z-index. Mal schauen…

Das Darstellungsproblem mit dem Hauptmenu beim IE8 (ja, es gibt noch Leute die den IE8 nutzen…) liegt nicht am z-index sondern an dem rgba() Style mit Transparenz. Ich habe nun einfach die style .css ein wenig angepasst und für die IE8 Liebhaber eine Fallbackzeile eingefügt:

@Frederik Niedernolte: Kommt drauf an, welche Version du derzeit installiert hast. Ich habe jetzt die Release notes auch auf dieser Seite eingefügt. Interessant ist die Neuerung von Version 1.0.9, da gab es einen Bugfix für den Internet Explorer. Version 1.0.10 bringt einen etwa aufgeräumteren Code mit und Version 1.0.11.x einen Spende-Button in den Optionen. Update ist also nicht dringend notwendig.
